Ghostly Goings On & Haunting Nights have Joined forces to bring you a Special Night of Ghost Hunting at Dead Street School in Hitchin, Hertfordshire.
Dead Street School dates back the very early 1800’s and is now renamed at British Schools Museum showing school life of more than 200 years.
The original School was built in 1810 and has been extended many times up until the early 1900’s. In 1910 the school became so overcrowded that the infants continued their education here whilst the juniors were moved to a different school.
Dead Street school retains a unique feature as the last surviving Monitorial school in the world, in 1969 the old Victorian school bell rang for the final time.
The reported haunting’s at the school appear to be many and frequent day and night. The sound of children’s laughter resonating from the empty classrooms, footsteps heard running along the now empty corridors.
Life in the old school was harsh and punishment was swift so it is not unusual to hear the crack of the headmasters cane.
